Helping you navigate the energy transition and accelerate towards a decentralized and decarbonized energy future.
Designer
The Project Designer enables you to define complex multi-market, multi-site, and multi-asset energy projects. Scenario based assessments enable alternative pricing assumptions, commercial models, and asset combinations to be tested, and our intuitive interface makes it easy to model everything from transmission-connected utility-scale systems to large multi-site behind-the-meter portfolios.
Renewable generation
Gridcog has built-in global solar irradiance and wind resource data with accurate and flexible modeling of solar generation and wind generation. Modeling considers renewable curtailment from site export limits and grid congestion, and enables simulation of control systems for optimization of generation output, including economic curtailment. You can also integrate the output of industry standard renewable generation modeling tools, like PVSyst and Helioscope, into your project models.
Battery Storage
Battery and other energy storage technology can be modeled in Gridcog. Models consider energy storage and power capacity, degradation, round-trip efficiency, and depth of discharge. Storage systems can be configured to provide a variety of services including backup power, network demand charge management, energy arbitrage, ancillary services, and network support services. Battery control systems can be simulated, including full co-optimisation with generation and load for full value-stacking.
EV Charging
Gridcog can integrate electric vehicle charging: on-demand charging, smart charging, fleet charging, and bi-directional charging of electric vehicles. Trucks and buses, mining equipment, passenger vehicles, material handling systems, and light-weight micro-mobility solutions can all be modeled. Simulation of charging events considers site import limits, charger power capacity, vehicle charging requirements, and growth in future utilization, along with co-optimization of charging with electricity supply arrangements and distributed energy resources.
Multiple stakeholders
Our unique participant and value flow model provides a 360° view of the commercial and environmental outcomes for every project stakeholder. The flexible value flow design enables novel commercial models to be defined and tested, with cost and revenue sharing across every value pool from energy supply to network services to wholesale market participation.
Library
The Library provides a repository of reusable modeling inputs. It includes interval meter data sets, network tariff definitions, retail supply arrangements, forward wholesale price curves, project costing assumptions, power purchase agreement and demand response contracts, battery degradation schedules, electric vehicle charging utilization assumptions, and more. Everything in the library is security controlled, change managed, and versioned, ensuring the integrity of your project models.
Simulations
Our cutting edge Simulation & Optimisation Engine integrates rigorously tested parametric models for multiple kinds of energy resources, a billing-grade pricing and rating engine for commercial calculations, and an advanced optimiser to accurately represent the control system that will orchestrate and optimize your energy resources. Cloud computing means every simulation and optimization job runs on dedicated and scalable compute resources.
Markets
Together the Library and the Simulation & Optimisation Engine provide full support for wholesale markets and wholesale market services. Whether it is for a virtual power plant, grid-interactive microgrid, or utility-scale renewable power system, you can model the wholesale value of your project. There is support for multiple markets including the GB electricity market in the UK, the New Zealand electricity market, and Australia’s WEM and NEM electricity markets, as well as a generic market model for other jurisdictions.
Emissions
Gridcog calculates the full emissions outcomes for your projects. Emissions calculations are based on the emissions intensity of your generation systems (such as gas or biofuel generators), average annual emissions factors for the local electricity grid, in line with GHG Protocol Scope 2 emissions reporting requirements, and interval-level weighted average and marginal-generator emissions factors to support projects focused on 24x7 Carbon-Free Energy.
Results
Project modeling results are accessible through rich, interactive data visualizations, custom summary reports, and flexible data exports. Results include the detailed interval profiles of every scenario, site, and asset over the entire project life, and also include cash flow and emissions calculations for every project stakeholder. Dashboards provide engaging and detailed views of energy, emissions, and cash flow profiles.
