Meet George Kopanias - our new Sales Director in London

I’m delighted to welcome George Kopanias to Gridcog’s London team!

As Gridcog continues to grow, we’re excited to have George join our Shoreditch office to help bring Gridcog to more clients in the UK. With a breadth of professional experience across manufacturing, construction and energy, and a love for physics, technology and mathematics, George brings enthusiasm for our product and the energy transition coupled with rich experience bringing technical software products to market. He has been getting stuck into the Gridcog software, getting to know the team, our customers and joining a number of client meetings already.

What were you doing before Gridcog, and what got you into the energy space?

From an early age, I was drawn to physics, mathematics, and technology, which led me to study mechanical engineering. As a student, I was very inspired by the promise of renewable energy to create a healthier environment, so I pursued a postgraduate degree in energy production and management.

Over the years, working across various industries (manufacturing, construction, energy) I realised that the energy transition goes well beyond cutting emissions. It has the power to reduce geopolitical risks, stabilise food prices, and raise living standards worldwide.

Right before joining Gridcog, I was in the semiconductor industry where the role of energy became clear yet again. The performance of data centres and AI depends on reliable, affordable energy, a challenge that’s only going to grow.

I’m thrilled to re-enter the energy space at a time when its importance has never been greater.

What is your role at Gridcog?

My role at Gridcog is as a Sales Director, focusing on the UK market. I’ll help organisations set and achieve their net-zero targets by ensuring they have the right tools and guidance for successful energy transition projects. I will be communicating to prospective clients that Gridcog offers not only powerful software but also a dedicated team of experts who support every step of the journey. I’m continually impressed by the depth of knowledge here and the enthusiasm for making a real impact.

What attracted you to working with Gridcog?

I was drawn to Gridcog by its blend of cutting-edge software and an inspiring team culture. My research showed me just how deep and capable the platform is, but it was the genuine passion and drive of the people behind it that truly impressed me. Moreover, the company’s mission to decarbonise and decentralise energy aligns perfectly with my values and vision for a more sustainable future, promising significant benefits for society. This environment feels like the ideal place for me to contribute, learn, and grow.

What interests and excites you most about the energy industry?

The energy industry captivates me because it’s both deeply impactful and technically complex. It affects every aspect of life, yet can seem opaque to those who haven’t explored its fundamentals. In my role, I love engaging with all kinds of clients - whether they’re deeply technical or completely new to the subject - and helping them navigate the path to cleaner, more resilient energy solutions. There’s tremendous satisfaction in seeing organisations embrace these innovations once they understand the clear advantages. And by succeeding in my job, I’m actively contributing to the UK’s net-zero goals, greater decentralisation, energy independence, and a healthier environment for everyone.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I spend much of my free time with my wife, son, and close friends. I enjoy playing the electric guitar and going to the gym to stay active. I’m always eager to try out new hobbies—recently, I’ve taken up sourdough bread making and film photography.

What technology could you not live without?

Life would be mundane without my music streaming service. It’s a gate to infinite exploration - there’s so much excellent music that, even if no new recordings were ever made, it would take centuries to uncover the already recorded hidden gems.
